Veomo Takes on the Mobility Dilemma

Apps for public transportation along with car, bike and scooter sharing in the near future — there are plenty of options for smart and efficient mobility in a city like Munich. But how can you keep track of all the offers? That task has been taken on by the Munich startup Veomo. It wants to shed some light on the mobility dilemma with its visualization software.

Who are you and what do you do?

We are Stefan (27, Software Developer) and Dominik (31, Industrial Engineer) and we’ve been developing Veomo together since 2018.

We believe that the transition to new mobility is indispensable for livable and sustainable cities. That’s why we’re raising awareness for alternative mobility services and simplifying access to mobility information.

Veomo provides real-time information about available mobility options on large screens, which in turn minimizes daily commuting stress, reduces the need for parking spots and promotes sustainable mobility patterns.

Our visualization software for Mobility 4.0 is licensed by companies, property managers, smart cities, hotels, conference centers and airports. It allows them to offer their customers, employees and guests a modern service while making a positive contribution to the mobility revolution.

But that’s nothing out of the box!

Many confuse us with mobility apps. But considering that more than 80% of Germans still don’t use mobility apps, we’re letting people know about mobility options without smartphones.

Veomo displays real-time information about available mobility services on large screens in a particular location. Users just need to take a look to find out about and compare their mobility options without having to search through a host of smartphone apps to find the best offer.

In addition to local public transportation, information is also clearly displayed about car sharing, bike sharing, scooter sharing, ride hailing and ride sharing. We also make it possible for our license holders to display their own mobility services, such as employee commuter buses and carpooling options. Veomo also provides information about current traffic conditions, heavy traffic and the time needed to get to the airport or downtown.

What are the three main ingredients in your recipe for success?

We belong to a generation of young city dwellers who have never owned their own car and probably never will. We use many different mobility services to get around the city and are all too familiar with problems involving comparison, bad reception and tons of apps. Our background in the automotive industry means we also understand that mobility service providers are worried they’ll lose their connection to their customers to mobility platforms. That’s why we offer a solution that benefits both users and those who provide mobility services.

Now let’s get down to the nitty-gritty: How is business going?

We’ve already equipped several companies in Munich with Veomo. Just a few of our clients are the BMW Group, Messe München, Giesecke + Devrient and various real estate developers. To meet the demand, we’re currently rolling out our service in Germany’s seven largest cities and in Vienna.

What does Munich mean to you?

Munich means home, opportunities and the future to us. We both went to university and worked in Munich. We gathered initial experience in founding a company at the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship. Hardly any other city deals with the subject of sustainability in such depth and gives new mobility concepts a chance. For us, there’s no better or more beautiful city for developing a sustainable mobility product and making it marketable.

How will your startup become the next unicorn? Or will we be seeing you at an Epic Fail Night soon?

We are becoming increasingly aware of the interest and attention paid to new mobility concepts. Companies, politicians and society as a whole are searching desperately for solutions for our mobility dilemma. That naturally gives us significant momentum for rapid growth. On the other hand, the mobility industry is changing quickly. Large automotive corporations are coming together to form alliances. Other mobility services receive an enormous amount of venture capital, roll their service out overnight and then go bankrupt.

FC Bayern Munich or TSV 1860 Munich?

We always root for the underdog. So considering the current situation, we’re for FC Bayern.
