The Munich Startup Award 2019 Goes to Hawa Dawa

The winner of the Munich Startup Award 2019 has been revealed: On October 1st, Head of the Department of Labor and Economic Development, Clemens Baumgärtner, started off the networking day at the startup festival Bits & Pretzels at the Munich Oktoberfest in the Schottenhamel Tent and handed over the 5,000 euro award to the Munich startup Hawa Dawa.

Each year, the special award distinguishes the young Munich company that fared best during the Pitch Contest at Bits & Pretzels. The award is sponsored by Munich Startup. The aim of the award is to highlight the innovative power of Munich startups and promote local young entrepreneurs. Clemens Baumgärtner commented:

“The innovative power of this Munich startup definitely earned an award. The Munich Startup Award acknowledges young companies who provide impressive solutions to the challenges of our day and age. That gives positive impetus to Munich’s economy and the future of our city.”

During the pitch contest at the startup festival Bits & Pretzels, it was Hawa Dawa that prevailed against the Munich competition. Co-founder and CFO Yvonne Rusche was very pleased about receiving the distinction.

“As Munich natives, we’re very proud to win the Munich Startup Award. It shows the incredible support in the Munich ecosystem.”

The Munich IoT startup developed an AI-based system for clean air in cities. Hawa Dawa plans to invest the 5,000 euro award in research and development.

In years past, other top-notch Munich startups were also delighted about winning the award. The smart city startup Clevercity won in 2016, the online meta search engine Catchys was victorious in 2017 and the award went to Inveox in 2018.
