Munich Startup: Who are you and what do you do? Please introduce yourselves!
Funcoo: We, the founders of Funcoo, are Stefan Roglmeier (25) and Johann Feckl (25), and are both students of mechanical engineering at the HM Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences.
After meeting during our first semester, we became good friends while studying and, starting in the third semester, became roommates in a shared apartment in Munich’s Maxvorstadt, which we also happened to found together, too. Now we have four more roommates.
Munich Startup: What problem does your startup solve?
Funcoo: With Funcoo, you can easily transport commercial beverage crates on your bike.
Munich Startup: But that’s nothing out of the box!
Funcoo: Unfortunately, it is. After having to schlep quite a few beer crates back to our apartment for a party, we had actually wanted to buy a good solution online. After a lengthy search, we realized there wasn’t a suitable solution to our problem, and that’s why we started developing Funcoo. We’ve since learned that there’s a company in northern Germany that sells an idea similar to Funcoo. But for us, their construction was far from convincing.
“Plan to successfully establish Funcoo on the market”
Munich Startup: What have been your three biggest challenges so far?
Funcoo: Expanding our reach, creating and establishing company structures, legal matters, such as foundation, tax authority issues, …
Munich Startup: Where would you like to be in one year, and where in five years?
Funcoo: For the future, we plan to successfully establish Funcoo on the market and give people a convenient problem-solver for their bikes. For this winter, we’re planning to develop a shopping basket that’s compatible with Funcoo. We would like to finance it next year with another crowdfunding campaign and then establish it on the market as well.
Munich Startup: What do you think about Munich as a startup location?
Funcoo: It’s great! Munich offers a lot of support for startups, which is why it’s a great place, compared to other major German cities, for building up a big network and growing together with other startups.
Munich Startup: Isar River or English Garden?
Funcoo: Our preference would be to enjoy both as often as possible. Because our apartment is in Maxvorstadt, however, we usually end up heading to the English Garden.
