Viaductus: “We are solving the succession problem in Germany”

The German SME sector is undergoing a generational change: according to KfW, 125,000 owners of small and medium-sized enterprises plan to retire from their company every year. They want to hand over their companies to successors - but finding them is difficult. The Munich-based startup Viaductus has found a solution to this problem. Co-founder Artur Morozas explains how it works in this interview.

Munich Startup: What does your startup Viaductus do? What problem do you solve?

Artur Morozas, Viaductus: We are solving the succession problem in Germany. We have built an AI-based, user-friendly company exchange that facilitates contact between company sellers and prospective buyers.

Munich Startup: But that’s nothing out of the box!

Artur Morozas: Our AI integrations (AI-based search function & AI analysis for the fit between the interested party and the advertisement) are probably not yet available for this purpose! But we don’t want to stop here either. Our vision is to build an omni-platform that covers the entire company sales process, from lead to closing.

Munich Startup: What’s your founding story?

Artur Morozas: Sven and Artur previously worked in M&A and private equity and noticed how un-digitalized and un-automated the industry still works in some cases. We wanted to change that. We then got to know our CTO Chris, who is implementing our vision technically. Chris was previously CTO at Creditshelf.

Viaductus and the search for product-market fit

Munich Startup: What have been your biggest challenges so far?

Artur Morozas: Product-market fit! We underestimated this because we were firmly convinced that we had built the better product for an existing market. We have the better company exchange, but not the reach of incumbents. Our goal now is to find a way to get exclusive deals on the platform and thus draw the attention of more potential buyers to us.

Munich Startup: How is business going?

Artur Morozas: Things are slowly getting off to a good start! We seem to have made the right pivot and see strong potential. We are expanding our depth in the value chain by offering exclusive and free services for potential business sellers. For example, a free company valuation, which is where every professional company sale begins.

Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?

Artur Morozas: Sven and Artur have been living here for quite some time. Chris is from Frankfurt and can hardly wait to come to Munich. The practical thing for us here is the proximity to our market (especially private equity).

Munich Startup: Risk or security?

Artur Morozas: Risk equals reward. But the actual risk is taking security for granted.
