Munich Startup: What does your startup do? What problem do you solve?
Maximilian Schubert, Adon Health: We provide fast, digital and medically validated access to testosterone replacement therapies as part of our mission to fundamentally improve healthcare and preventive medicine for complex and underserved therapies. We strive to provide our patients with a platform where they can manage their medical care digitally and in a single place. This greatly simplifies the patient experience and is less time consuming than traditional methods. For underserved conditions in men’s health, there is often a wait time of several months to speak to a doctor as well as a high stigma, which is why many men don’t go to the doctor in the first place. Our online solution provides quick and discreet access.
Munich Startup: But that’s nothing out of the box!
Maximilian Schubert: Adon Health is the first medical platform that focuses exclusively on men’s health and can offer therapies according to guideline standards. All services have been developed down to the last detail together with leading specialists in the field. The user is guided through the entire process of diagnosis, treatment and aftercare and is connected to all stakeholders in the healthcare system – laboratories, German doctors, pharmacies – like no other service.
Munich Startup: What’s your founding story?
Maximilian Schubert: Jonathan and I got to know each other during a digital health project at McKinsey. The mix of business administration and medicine already complemented each other very well back then. We came across the topic of hormone imbalance through the personal experience of a friend who was struggling with these problems. This opened our eyes to the deficits in the European healthcare system. Inspired by the desire to bring about real change, we decided to found Adon Health in mid-2023 to shape healthcare the way we believe it should be. Unconditionally focused on the patient.
Adon Health wants to “seamlessly map the entire patient journey”
Munich Startup: What have been your biggest challenges so far?
Maximilian Schubert: In the last three months, we have seen strong customer growth, which has significantly increased the number of support requests and operations. In addition to the ongoing task of efficiently connecting patients with laboratories, doctors and pharmacies, maintaining a high standard of quality has been a challenge. We were able to achieve a significant improvement here with automation and good process design.
Munich Startup: Where would you like to be in a year, where would you like to be in five years?
Maximilian Schubert: Our immediate goal for the next year is to seamlessly map the entire patient journey and make testosterone replacement therapy and preventive services, such as for prostate cancer, available throughout Germany. Over the next five years, we will expand our platform to include other complex and underserved therapies and add preventive medicine. Our major goal is to establish ourselves as the leading digital care platform in the field of men’s health.
Munich as a hotspot for healthtech
Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?
Maximilian Schubert: Munich is a real hotspot for innovations in the field of healthtech, which is mainly due to the outstanding universities and the dynamic startup scene. In addition to a thriving healthtech scene, there are a number of institutions that provide targeted support for founders, such as TUM Venture Labs, which not only give us as young entrepreneurs access to leading research and outstanding talent, but also to an extensive network of industry partners. In addition, Munich offers an exceptional quality of life and a robust economy, which makes the location particularly attractive for highly qualified specialists. This combination of academic excellence, economic strength and quality of life makes Munich an ideal place for us to drive Adon Health forward and develop leading healthcare solutions.
Munich Startup: Hidden Champion or Shooting Star?
Maximilian Schubert: We want to fundamentally change the healthcare system with a digital and patient-centric approach. We believe that many millions of people can benefit from this type of medical care. Our aim is therefore to reach as many people as possible with our approach in as short a time as possible. Not just in Germany, but throughout Europe.
