Ecoplanet: The cockpit for energy management

Ecoplanet was founded in 2022 by Maximilian Dekorsy and Henry Keppler. The startup now has a 35-strong team, has offices in Munich and Berlin, and has raised a total of six million euros in capital since March 2023. In the first year after the product launch, the company recorded seven-figure sales and is growing steadily. We spoke to founder Maximilian Dekorsy.

Munich Startup: What does Ecoplanet do? What problem do you solve?

Maximilian Dekorsy, founder and CEO of Ecoplanet: We offer SaaS solutions for the analysis and optimization of energy management and procurement. With our Ecoplanet Cockpit, customers benefit from two things: legally compliant energy management and intelligent supply. Our customers save considerable costs and CO2 emissions – saving energy costs in particular is essential for companies in the current market environment.

Munich Startup: But that already exists!

Maximilian Dekorsy: Not yet in this form. Historically, companies have already tried to measure and optimize energy consumption and make clever purchases. However, this has always been done with the help of traditional services (including consultants) and without the two elements being optimized as a whole. In our software, we interlink consumption and supply and thus ensure even greater savings than previously possible. Our artificial intelligence also ensures that the optimization potential for companies is even more innovative and long-term than before.

Energy transition as a challenge for SMEs

Munich Startup: What is your founding story?

Maximilian Dekorsy: Henry and I were already good friends before Ecoplanet and we often talked about the challenges facing SMEs. At the end of 2021, we started to talk more concretely with each other and recognized the energy transition as the biggest next challenge for these companies – only the companies are not prepared to master this new challenge alongside all the other complexities. We founded Ecoplanet in mid-2022 and launched our first product in December 2022. Our cockpit represents the energy expert in the company that our customers often cannot afford or do not want.

Munich Startup: What have been your biggest challenges so far?

Maximilian Dekorsy: In our area in particular, the constantly changing regulatory landscape is certainly one of the biggest challenges for our customers, but also for us. With our cockpit, we map all the challenges in the energy sector for our customers – regulation and new legislation are a major part of our corporate concerns. We ourselves employ certified staff who constantly monitor regulatory changes and assess the impact on our customer base.

Ecoplanet: opportunity to help shape the energy transition

Munich Startup: Where would you like to be in one year, where would you like to be in five years?

Maximilian Dekorsy: The current situation is a huge opportunity for everyone who wants to help shape the energy transition. We now have the opportunity to make a contribution to ensuring that companies are successful in the long term and that Germany remains a strong business location. With Ecoplanet, we want to help our customers stabilize their economic situation so that they can get to a point as quickly as possible where the energy transition is at the heart of their business and is part of everyday life.

Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?

Maximilian Dekorsy: For us, Munich offers a very good mix of a strong economic structure, very good educational and research institutions and a large network of investors and energy experts. But because Munich is also home for us, we have the ideal conditions here for the development and growth of Ecoplanet.

Munich Startup: Quick exit or staying power?

Maximilian Dekorsy: Staying power! With the energy transition, we have certainly chosen one of the most extensive and therefore long-term topics as our focus. We are firmly convinced that sustainability and economic success can go hand in hand. This applies not only to our customers, but also to us.
